Susan Chancey is an interior designer, not a trapeze artist. But when it comes to balancing cool, modern design with warmth and character, she makes it look effortless. In the kitchen of this new construction in Olivette Riverside Community & Farm, Chancey tightropes the delicate line between sleek, minimalist elements and inviting, lived-in appeal. The result is a space that feels sophisticated and modern without sacrificing comfort and character. “The kitchen serves as the heart of the home, where Lane Pressley Expressions Cabinetry in Iron Ore provides a dramatic yet timeless backdrop,” says Chancey, who worked with Ward Enterprises & Ventures on the project. “The countertops, a combination of butcher block and granite sourced through RockStar, add both warmth and durability.” Above the island, a Kuzco light fixture (Ferguson) offers a refined glow. Hardwood flooring (Gennett Lumber Company) underfoot introduces an organic element that complements the sleek surfaces. Designer-sourced barstools and high-performance appliances from Ferguson complete the look. “For the client, this home represents a thoughtful transition — a move from a long-time residence to a space that embraces simplicity, function, and beauty,” says Chancey. “The result is a home that is modern yet inviting, sleek yet warm — designed for both effortless living and lasting comfort.”
