The master bath in this 1980s post-and-beam home off Town Mountain Road had some exceptional architectural features, including cedar beams and a sharply angled wood-clad ceiling, but it had been consigned to a fate of pedestrian décor: rectangular, beige tile and standard, sliding shower doors.
This simply wouldn’t do for the new homeowner, who spent years in the New York fashion industry and possesses an artistic and sophisticated sensibility.
With the assistance of architect Jason Weil of Retro+Fit Design, the space was re-imagined as a Zen spa: sleek and ergonomic, but infused with a soothing, organic quality. Weil maximized the 150-square-foot space by creating a contiguous bathing area that integrates a generous open shower with a 4-foot-deep, Japanese-style soaking tub.
Bellwether Design Build transformed the room with sleek cabinetry from Keystone Kitchen & Bath, precisely applied wall tiles that extend to the ceiling, and herringbone-patterned, Spanish tile on the bath and niches — all from Mediterranean Tile & Stone. The exquisite fixtures and hardware from Bella Hardware & Bath include an oversized, square rain-shower head. Glass shower doors, a wall of mirrors, and high corner windows that capture light from the adjacent bedroom are all from Wholesale Glass & Mirror Company.
The result is stunning, going from lackluster to sublime. The effect is timelessly elegant — a sensuous and serene retreat.
