American Craft Week

Blacksmith Paul Garrett

In case Western North Carolina wasn’t celebrating its handmade heritage to the fullest extent with all this season’s festivals, fairs, expos, and exhibits, consider the national 10th Annual American Craft Week, which makes a strong regional showing October 4-13.

Flow Gallery in Marshall presents “New Pottery Works” by founding member Emily Reason (flowmarshall.com).

The Village Potters Clay Center Annual Multi-Kiln Opening Extravaganza highlights work by resident potters, live demos, and giveaways on Saturday, Oct. 12 (thevillagepotters.com).

Byers McCurry Studio (byersmccurrystudio.com) is the working studio and gallery of artists Ed Byers and Holden McCurry, who will be represented at Grovewood Gallery (grovewood.com) and Southern Highland Craft Guild Shops (craftguild.org) during ACW.

This year’s first-time participants include Stephen Biggerstaff (ceramic artist at Odyssey Center for the Ceramic Arts), Erica Stankwytch Bailey (jewelry artist offering an open studio), and Majik Studios (offering a paper-making and lamp-building workshop).
