Blues and greens bloom at Wedge Studios

Long known for her tender portraits of children and families, Asheville artist Patricia Hargrove turns her attention to the natural world in And I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues (and Greens). Open this month in the Spotlight Gallery at Wedge Studios, the show features a collection of both abstract and representational paintings that capture flowers, leaves, and water — all rendered in soothing, meditative shades of blue and green. Hargrove says she draws inspiration from her meandering walks through wild woodlands. “When I get out in nature on a hike in these beautiful mountains we call home, I forget about all the busyness of life and enjoy being in the present,” she says. “It’s like a reset button for me. That is what I would love for a viewer to experience [during my show].” The exhibit runs through the end of July, with a reception on the second Saturday of the month.
