In nature, dualities abound — sunlight and shadow, life and decay, stillness and movement. These contrasting forces shape the world around us. They shape the art around us, too. Such is the premise of Duality in Nature, a group display opening at The Gallery at Flat Rock on Earth Day. According to a press statement, participating creatives such as Gary Cooley, Hunter Jay, AnnMarie LeBlanc, and Dale McEntire “have been asked to explore the contrasting and complementary aspects of nature in a piece of artwork.” As part of the opening reception on Tuesday, April 22, a representative from Conserving Carolina will discuss Hurricane Helene’s impact on the local landscape and subsequent recovery efforts. Local poet Karen Luke Jackson will also share a collection of poems. The nature-centric show will be followed by True Love: Art and Animals We Love. Viewers can expect to see a menagerie of critters, plus a tie-in with Blue Ridge Humane Society.
