Art and floral design intertwine at The Gallery at Flat Rock

It’s not unusual for visual artists to cull inspiration from the garden. But it’s a little less usual for the garden to take cues from the canvas, which is exactly what happens during Art in Bloom at The Gallery at Flat Rock. Now in its 10th year, this much-anticipated summer soirée invites 20 professional florists to interpret an equal number of juried artworks using the blooms of late summer — dahlias, Rudbeckia, etc. The floral pieces are then exhibited alongside the artwork on Labor Day weekend, creating a vibrant dialogue between brushstrokes and blossoms. “We look forward to this year’s 10th Annual Art in Bloom as it gives us the opportunity to gather as a community to celebrate the resilience of both Western North Carolina artists and designers whose livelihoods have been significantly impacted by Hurricane Helene,” says Julie Wilmot, owner of the gallery. “This year’s event reminds us to step back and appreciate the beauty around us and to never take it for granted again.”
