Asheville Gallery of Art presents three fall shows

Change, place, and joy take center stage this season at Asheville Gallery of Art, where three exhibits highlight the breadth of local artistry. October brings Views from the Edge, a luminous solo show by painter Sally Lordeon. Known for her abstract-impressionist style, Lordeon explores the “edge” as a metaphor for change — not an ending, but a threshold of new possibility. “Change is the unavoidable we all encounter in our lifetimes,” Lordeon says. “I’ve often observed that those who navigate this inevitability the best are those who are open and approach it as an opportunity — a possible step-up to something better.” In November, the gallery will feature The High Country, new landscapes by John Davis Held. Held’s luminous oils and pastels are rooted in his extensive travels and convey what he describes as both “peace and excitement simultaneously.” The year concludes in December with Happiness Is…, a group exhibit in which the collective’s 30-plus artists share their interpretations of joy, from quiet everyday pleasures to exuberant bursts of color.
