5th Annual Small Works Show finds abundance in scale

Scaled for gift giving but brimming with originality, the 5th Annual Small Works Show at Lucy Clark Gallery & Studio proves that holiday cheer can come in small packages. This year’s exhibition highlights regional favorites, including Black Mountain painter Jackson Hammack, known for his bold, contemporary animal portraits that stare straight into the soul. Bears, owls, and deer gaze from his canvases with an intensity that invites viewers to recognize the “wonderment of creation,” as Hammack describes it. His layered textures and saturated colors are matched by works from a dozen other artists across painting, fiber, and mixed media — all crafted with the same care as larger pieces, but offered at accessible price points. “We all love to give original work as gifts during the holiday season and support the local economy,” says gallery owner Lucy Clark. “This show, which is in its fifth year, is a way to do both things beautifully.”
