Coffee With Cream

Edward Cocciadiferro and his wife Jackie like to go big at holiday time — thus the two ovens and large walk-around island in their fine but functional kitchen, meant to accommodate a houseful of guests and top-flight merrymaking. Edward says his only other request of architect Christopher Phelps for the kitchen in their Ramble home was “lots of natural light.” The arched doorway and windows infuse the space with European sophistication, a festive feel at any time of year.

Jose Florez of Florez Fine Woodworking notes that his firm’s cabinetry work in the Cocciadiferro kitchen is all maple, and builder Kevin Reed of Bluestone Construction comments that the island was stained dark, while the perimeter was painted and glazed; he also adds that the beautifully smooth white-oak floor was finished on site. The creamy palette grows bold in a coffered statement ceiling, crowning the room’s overall sculptural look.

Kevin praises the artistically complex, “interesting architecture” that is the house’s signature — those arches took more than one try to get exactly right, he reveals — while Edward notes, “Chris, Jose, and Kevin were all wonderful to work with, and we’re really happy with the finished product.”
