It was a tough decision, admits designer Krista Washam LaBlue, to eliminate the walled privacy of the water closet inside this Asheville-area residence. But that bold move, along with many other maneuvers in the context of a vast, total-home renovation, allowed for the inclusion of many glamorous appointments. Eventually, the once-tight master bath was reborn as a spa-like retreat.
Reconfiguring the entire room “prioritized the creation of a feature 5’ Jeffrey Court Droplet Diamond glass shower,” says Krista. Next came a luxe Aquastone Soaking Tub, lit from overhead by an ornate tumbled-seaglass chandelier from Currey & Co. At once nature-chic and sumptuous, this all-important piece reads like Versailles with a breezy patois. Ten-foot ceilings allow the delicate, hand-screened floral Fasano wallcovering to “simply float,” as the designer puts it.
The silver-leaf tile in the shower and variations of sea-foam hues throughout (including robin’s-egg-shaped soap) make for an organically meditative scheme, with the Baikul-marble countertop “a melt of celadon and powder blue from nature,” Krista notes. Serenity takes the top note, although a close look reveals painstaking artisan details, including the Dustin mirror by Made Goods whose pattern frame is comprised of hand-laid bone and resin.
The oversized floor tile was laid in a horizontal grid to visually widen the room, and this kind of intention informs every corner of the space. Now, says Krista, “there is an impactful visual entrance” — and plenty of light and air to soak up all the luxe amenities.
