It’s as common to hear horror stories as high praise when it comes to the complex business of home building. But the owners of a new home in Skytop Farm near Hendersonville can’t gush enough about the local vendors who helped them realize their dream home, a full-time residence. Although the couple didn’t hire a main interior designer, relying instead on their skills gained from studying the industry, they acknowledge their handpicked group of talented artisans.
In particular, the team at Packard Cabinetry gets major love for their elegant, dignified work throughout the featured kitchen. The “Crystal White” Shaker cabinets, custom-designed by Brodie Smith and installed by Kevin Smith, are door-match drawer-front with handsome crown molding. Surrounding walls on two sides are painted in Sherwin-Williams’ “Dorian Gray.” A similar gray is an accent note amid the black-and-white swirls of fabulous, vintage Delicatus granite in the island top/bar, sourced and installed by Katherine Morris, owner of Stone Gallery in Mills River.
Under pendant lighting, the island base is a soft black that complements the room’s chairs of a similar hue. A showplace chandelier dramatizes edge-of-modern touches elsewhere. The owner points out that the kitchen segues into a much larger great room, and the high ceilings throughout allow such contemporary furnishings as a sleek, curved table from Four Corners Home.
The homeowners aren’t afraid to take chances. Planks in point: The hardwood floors are made of acacia, heavy-duty but gracious and assembled in trendy butcher-block style. The man of the house offers a warm assessment of their team of craftsmen. About builder Wes Wiseman of Looking Glass Builders, he says, “I can’t say enough.” Referring to the team as a whole, he concludes, “the way everything came together was absolutely perfect.”
