To the Manor Made

A triptych of white cupboards brushes the ceiling in one key part of this courtly Waterford Lakes kitchen. “I worked the vision out with [homeowner] Melody [Lanning],” says cabinetmaker Nathan Hoeh (Hoeh Works, Inc.), who put his artistic engineering skills to work injecting simple elegance in a unique-shaped room, including one row of cabinets so slim it evokes a Tuscan column, plus clerestory insets throughout the main scheme.

“The big challenge was how tall the space was versus how narrow,” explains Nathan, who had to make the range hood come out aesthetically pleasing, despite its lofty status on top of the already sky-high trio of cabinets — and then balance all other style components accordingly.

“I sent Nathan pictures of everything I liked and he made my dream cabinets come to life,” says Melody, who shares the home with her husband Jim and a boxer named Malcolm. A self-professed “big fan of blue and white,” with a large collection of decorative accessories in those two hues to prove it, she also chose the “Blue Bahia” Brazilian granite countertops from Rock Star Marble & Granite and had them “chiseled for a different look” before installation. Graceful pendant lights enhance the Chateaux style, as does arabesque-patterned tile from Glazzio’s Versailles series. “In the end,” says Nathan, “all the pieces worked well together.”
